Be Kind to Yourself
We are oftentimes our worst critic. The negative thoughts our mind produces can be a great source of suffering. Our critical mind can be unrelenting and out right vicious at times. If you have an overly self critical mind it can be good practice to learn how to be kind to yourself. Below are some questions/statements I will suggest to clients when they are trying to be more kind to themselves.
Would you have the same expectation for a friend that you do for yourself?
Is it ok to make mistakes?
How would you judge another person if they made the same mistake?
Leaning takes time.
No one is perfect.
Can you forgive yourself like you would forgive a friend that made the same mistake?
What use does beating yourself up offer you?
What can be learned from this situation?
Does the pain you’re feeling tell you something important about your beliefs/values?
Being kind to yourself can also include reaching out for help when you need it.
